KIRA VALVES & ENGINEERING ACCOMMODATES INTERNSHIP FOR 5 ND MECHANICAL ENGINEERING STUDENTS

FEEDBACK REPORT OF MANNGO ZWIANDE

Before coming to Kira Valves & Engineering I didn’t understand what the course (Mechanical engineering) I’m doing is about, until I did my P1 at the company.

I was given a full support in order to complete the syllabus during my P1, and during the period I also learned other important things apart from what is required from the school syllabus such as time management as required in a workplace.I was also given some duties to do  such machining, etc. under the supervision of the workshop supervisor, where I had an opportunity to apply my knowledge.  When doing these duties it also helps me to see my improvement. I also learned more about health and safety during the toolbox meetings.

Sometimes when there is a challenge with a job which is to be do in a workshop ,I was also involved in assisting how this can be done ,this helped me apply my thinking.

Now  I have an Idea of what mechanical engineering is all about.

KIRA VALVES & ENGINEERING ACCOMMODATES INTERNSHIP FOR 5 ND MECHANICAL ENGINEERING STUDENTS

FEEDBACK FROM ROSEY PALESA MOKHELE

I have come to realize that Kira Valves and Engineering is a growing valves company and it has within its discretion made space to accommodate engineering interns.

As a Mechanical Engineering Technician in the making I had to learn various workshop processes during my P1 and the company went above and beyond to offer that training to me. I came here without having any idea on how to use hand tools and machining tools or how quality control was conducted within a production company. But because of the training I have undertaken I am now able to utilize those tools. I personally as a student have grown my knowledge practically in Mechanical Engineering and what it entails in a manufacturing and refurbishment industry.

Feedback from Paul Modiba Rangongo

It was a very good journey. I enjoyed every moment of it. We rubbed shoulders with well experienced guys. What liked most is that our mentors were willing to go an extra mile to ensure that we get the best possible training. They were not selfish at all. Kira Valves & Engineering on its own is well equipped to cater for in service training and was very supportive throughout the whole P1 training. The support from all angles at Kira Valves & Engineering allowed us to spread our wings even further. I am now looking forward to another great 6 months of P2 training!

Feedback from Pfunzo Siphugu

I thank KIRA VALVES & ENGINEERING for giving me the opportunity to do my internship at their company. During my P1 duration at KIRA VALVES & ENGINEERING, I got to experience how it is to be working. I was like a toddler who couldn’t walk  but Kira brought me up and  built the person I am today, I have gained valuable insight into the mechanical industry over the past six months. I learnt to apply my theory part practically starting from the most basic things like safety measures. I got to know different tools and machines and how to operate them through Kira which is something one might take for granted as it seems easy when you know theory of mechanical engineering.

I was applying my knowledge from school and some of them included topics from Design 2 like plain bearings & lubrication, circular shafts, keys, splines & couplings, material selection, fastener sand bolted connections. From mechanics of machines I covered almost everything which is needed as a mechanic.

I even learnt things which are not covered as part of subjects to be learnt, like the importance of punctuality, social interaction with fellow workers, self care/protection and many more.

I owe a big thanks to Kira for all that. Thank you

At the beginning of the year, Kira Valves & Engineering accommodated interns from various universities, who have just completed their Mechanical Engineering studies. Here is what they have to say after their P1 Training at the company:

P1 EXPERIENCE FEEDBACK OF MONNAPULA GERALD MOJAPELE

I would like to start with thanking Kira Valves & Engineering, with the opportunity given to me to do my work experiential learning. My P1 experiential learning was great. I was welcomed with warm hands by both the management and the staff. I have been treated well and with care and guided well. I have enjoyed being part of the family in Kira Valves & Engineering, from working in the workshop where I received proper guidance, and grew from a varsity boy to now being ready for the real world, the working place.

My P1 experiential learning  has fed me with so much positivity in the field of mechanical engineering that I now cannot wait to learn more in the industry.

REFURBISHMENT – THE BEST INSURANCE AGAINST FAILURE

Kira Valves & Engineering, a Black Youth Owned and Black Women Empowered, BBBEE Level 1 Company, was established in 2005. Our committed team specialises in valve refurbishment, on-site services and fabrication services to the engineering industry. We provide market-leading products, services & solutions for the most challenging applications and simultaneously succeed in supporting our client to keep their maintenance costs to a minimum whilst maintaining an excellent turnaround time.

We believe that we are the most diversified valve and engineering business in South Africa. Our processes are controlled and co-ordinated by our ISO 9001:2015, OHSAS 18001:2007 and ISO 3834 Standard Management Systems which measure our quality, delivery and safety principles. Kira Valves & Engineering are Eskom Level 1 accredited which allows us to work on high pressure systems.

Excellent facilities at our 4200m2 solar-powered workshop in Benrose enable us to cope with even the largest valves in use today. We are fully equipped to refurbish most makes, types and sizes up to 3 meters of low, medium and high pressure valves. Our premises consist of a valve refurbishing facility which consists of stripping, sandblasting, machining, welding, assembly, testing and spraying services.

Replacing faulty or poorly performing valves can be expensive and not always necessary. Up to 90% of all valves can be refurbished at considerable savings when compared to purchasing a new unit. The client on average saves 40% in comparison to the cost of a new valve. Our expertise in the valve industry means we have the most experienced teams able to repair valves. Kira Valves & Engineering can collect, repair and return faulty valves to its original condition by applying either the clients’ specifications or working to local and international standards. Valve failure can cause of millions of Rands worth of lost production every year. Yet a preventative maintenance programme of valve repair could essentially eliminate this costly, inefficient and potentially hazardous problem. Planned maintenance is obviously the most efficient way to avoid disruption to your plant. However, sudden breakdowns will always occur. Our response teams are on 24 hour call out, and will work around the clock when necessary to get a plant operational. Alternatively, faulty valves may be removed for complete refurbishment and testing in our workshops before reinstalling in line.

Our refurbishment experience and resources also allow us to repair a range of valves on site. Our site teams offer on-site based support during prolonged periods of shut downs or maintenance. Both our onsite and workshop based teams offer a fast reaction service to minimise any disruption to process. Our skilled teams can carry out a comprehensive overhaul of all valve types.

We can mobilise skilled site teams to site at short notice to perform various tasks including, but not limited to: emergency valve repairs, site surveys, diagnostics of valve issues and shutdown support services.

Our engineers ensure that each valve is stripped, quality assessed for condition and rebuilt, returning the valve to a specification equal to or higher than that of a new unit. All units are then tested in house to meet our strict approval process.

Kira Valves & Engineering acquires ISO 3834 Certification

SAIW Certification, the certification division of SAIW, is authorised by the International Institute of Welding (IIW) to operate its Manufacturer Certification Scheme in South Africa. ISO 3834 standard defines quality requirements suitable for fusion welding processes of metallic materials, for welding both in workshops and on site. It is appropriate when demonstration of a manufacturer’s capability to produce welded constructions in accordance with specified criteria is required.

We are proud to announce that we are now a recognised as a ISO 3834 Certified Company.
